Solid Tire Rim Type and Manufacturing Methods

The wheel hub is also called rim. According to the characteristics and requirements of different models, the wheel surface treatment process will also adopt different methods, which can be roughly divided into two types: paint and electroplating. The wheels of ordinary models have less consideration in appearance, and good heat dissipation is a basic requirement. The process is basically treated with baking paint, that is, spraying and then baking, the cost is more economical and the color is beautiful. The color of the wheel remains unchanged. The surface treatment of many Volkswagen models is painted. Some stylish avant-garde and dynamic colored wheels also use baking paint technology. These wheels are affordable and complete in specifications. Plating wheels are divided into silver plating, water plating and pure plating. Although the color of silver-plated and water-plated wheels is bright and vivid, but the retention time is short, so the price is relatively cheap, and it is loved by many young people who seek freshness. Pure electroplated wheels with long-lasting color and luster can be said to be of high quality and high price.


There are three methods of manufacturing aluminum alloy wheels of solid tire : gravity casting, forging, and low-pressure precision casting.

1. Gravity casting method: The aluminum alloy solution is poured into the mold by gravity, and after the forming, it is processed and polished by a lathe to complete the production. The manufacturing process is relatively simple, no precise casting process is required, the cost is low and the production efficiency is high, but it is easy to generate bubbles (trachoma), the density is uneven, and the surface smoothness is insufficient. A lot of Geely models are equipped with wheels produced by this method, which are mainly early models. Most new models have been replaced with new wheels.

2.Forging: The forging aluminum block is extruded directly from the mold by a 1,000-ton press. The advantages are uniform density, smooth and detailed surface, thin and light-weight hub wall, and the highest material strength, which is more than 30% higher than the casting method. Due to the need for more sophisticated production equipment, and the yield is only 50% to 60%, the manufacturing cost is higher.

3. Low-pressure precision casting method: Precision casting at a low pressure of 0.1Mpa. This casting method has good formability, clear outline, uniform density, and smooth surface. It can achieve high strength, light weight, control costs, and yield. Above 90%, it is the mainstream manufacturing method of high-quality aluminum alloy wheels.
